Polystyrene (PS) foam insulation has excellent long-lasting, unique cushioning shock resistance, aging resistance and water resistance. So the construction, packaging, electrical and electronic products, ships, vehicles and aircraft manufacturing, decoration fields materials, housing construction has been widely used, which greatly facilitated our lives.
But more than 50% of electrical and electronic damping packaging, fish boxes and other fresh produce packaging, namely abandoned as useless junk because PS foam resistant has bacteria resistance, weather resistance, corrosion resistance, under aerobic state 300 years to completely degrade. A lot of waste PS foam scattered in the natural environment, affects the living environment of our planet white pollution, on the ecological environment caused great damage.So since the 1980s, the eight states of the United States, Japan, Korea, Taiwan Province of China and other countries and regions have legislation prohibiting or restricting the use of polystyrene foam tableware.
Countries through continuous exploration and practice, and technological progress and innovation, and gradually solve the problem of recycling waste PS foam, making large-scale recycling of waste PS foam become polystyrene foam production of about 12 million tons every year throughout the world. China produce about 1.8 million tons per year, except for a few of countries, and other countries’ waste PS foam has not been effectively recovered.
According to incomplete statistics, the Nordic countries and Japan PS foam recycling utilization rate of 72% and Korea PS foam recycling utilization rate was 64%, while the remaining countries and regions PS foam recycling rate is only 10% to 30%.
In China, the recovery mechanism is not perfect, so 70% of PS foam is buried or burned, and only about 30% is recycled. The majority of the waste polystyrene material has not been effective recovery and utilization, causing serious environmental pollution. Severe resource crisis and environmental pollution, forces us to increase the recycling and reuse of resources and green development cycle of recycling.
